Here we have a most charming 19th Century watercolour by French artist (Charles) Paul Marny. The artwork depicts a French or Belgium harbour with moored fishing boats. The painting is signed lower left Paul Marny. A delightful and heartwarming piece of art that would grace any wall in your home.

Biography :

Charles Paul Marny, his correct name was Charles Paul Godard, was born in Paris around 1829, and died in 1914, at the age of 85. A porcelain decorator for the Sèvres factory before moving to Belfast to work with a French architect where he may have assumed the Irish name of Marny. In 1860, he was persuaded by photographer Olivier Francois Xavier Sarony to move to Scarborough where he taught Albert Strange (1855-1917) and many other Scarborough artists. He visited France and Belgium from time to time to paint harbour and street scenes but remained living in Scarborough for the rest of his life.
