This auction is
for an original Ferrari handbook
supplement which would have been destined for an owner, in the USA (North American) market, of a new
3.0 litre quattrovalvole Mondial
Cabriolet when delivered during 1984,
although it should be equally suitable for 1985 cars.
The Mondial was a
2+2 mid-engined design from Pininfarina, to replace the Bertone conceived
308gt4. It was, along with the 308GTBi/GTSi models, the first V8 powered
Ferrari production car fitted with a fuel injection system.
The (original)
Mondial 8, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show of 1980, was produced as a coupé
only and quite soon updated to the Mondial quattrovalvole in mid-1982.
The QV cabriolet version was introduced for
Manufacture Year 1984 and subsequent
Mondial models with 3.2 litre and, finally, 3.4 litre engines took overall
production, through until 1993, to almost 7,000 cars (coupe and cabriolet) in
13 years.
Production of the
3.0 litre Mondial Cabriolet version,
during 1984/85, is recorded as just 629 cars in all markets.
The book,
measuring 14.5cm x 20.5cm and with a
soft cover, has just 14 pages (including
outer covers) of technical information and instruction, including a fold-out
section of the interior instruments/controls.
The first inner
page (numbered 3) confirms this to be a supplement
to be used in conjunction with the basic Mondial QV handbook (cat.
no.308/84), and each small section is headed (where applicable) with the
page number in the main manual to which the added instruction refers. All of
the text is in English and Italian
only.
The factory catalogue number on the inner
rear cover reads cat. 309/84 - n. 500,
signifying that just 500 books exist from a single print run, but
without a precise date.
This VERY RARE, over 40 years old and owner-unused,
book is in good condition with only some light scuffing to the covers, edges
and corners.
