Thanks for taking a look at my 1911 Wright Model B flyer fabric. I have had this fabric for a number of years being a fellow collector. The fabric measures approximately 1 inch x 1/2 inch and is in a plastic case. The photo attachment is 8 inch x 8 inch and is on photo paper. The signature is a copy and not the original document. Please message with any questions!
The Model B was the Wright brothers' most successful aircraft. It was produced from late 1910 to 1914, and during 1911 and 1912, the Wright Company was shipping four Model B’s a month.
Despite the numbers produced and the popularity of the aircraft, only one Wright Model B has survived intact. It's currently on display in the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is from this aircraft that this fabric originates.
Grover Cleveland Bergdoll purchased this aircraft new in 1912. Bergdoll, despite being an early American aviator, was an infamous escaped felon and draft dodger who fled to Germany to avoid serving in the First World War. His story alone is very interesting.
