2100 HP Diesel Electric Locomotives of Series 060-DA for the Rumanian State Railways
Printed in Switzerland, 39 pages. A4 size spital bound booklet (A22K)
No publication date given, but text refers to 1959, so probably a little time after that.
From the first inside page: In 1936 the Rumanian State Railways placed an order for a 4400-H.P. double locomotive of the 2 Dol+ 1 Do 2 wheel arrangement with Sulzer Brothers of Winterthur as general contractors.
This unit was the most powerful Diesel locomotive in the world at the time. Its electrical equipment was supplied by Brown, Boveri & Company Limited of Baden, Switzerland, and the mechanical equipment was built by Henschel & Sohn of Kassel, Germany. It was intended to be the first of a larger series, and was delivered in 1938. Although very good results were obtained with this locomotive, a repeat order had to be postponed on account of the outbreak of war.
As a sequel to the delivery of this first unit, the same railway authority placed an order with Swiss industry in 1956, after 20 years, for a series of six-axled 2100-HP locomotives, intended primarily for goods traffic.
Six of these locomotives are being built entirely in Switzerland by a consortium formed for the purpose of this contract and consisting of the firms of Sulzer Brothers Limited, Winterthur; Brown, Boveri & Company Limited, Baden; and the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works, Winterthur. The first company is supplying the thermal equipment, the second one the electrical components and the third one the mechanical parts. A further ten locomotives of the same type are being built in Rumania, for which the Swiss concerns are supplying the Diesel-electric installations
The condition of the booklet is good. The covers have several scuffs and blemishes, and creasing and wear along the edges, but the spiral binding is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is foxing to the outside page leaves.
When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
