The Swiss federal Railways Move With the Times
Book published by The Swiss Federal Railways in 1965, 48 pages. Paperback (A22F)
From the introduction: Since World War Il, railways have been going through a virtual renaissance. Ever-increasing traffic, greater demands by the public and the close relations which Switzerland as a transit country has with its neighbours, have compelled the Swiss Federal Railways to raise their efficiency still higher and to improve their productivity. With these aims in the forefront, more than 3.5 milliard francs have been spent between 1946 and 1964. By way of comparison, it may be mentioned that the capital assets of Switzerland's entire transport system total more than 25 milliard francs, or one-eighth of the nation’s resources. Of this figure, a fourth is represented by the railway system.
Formidable problems remain to be solved; staff shortages have led to the introduction of rationalisation schemes; the removal of operational bottlenecks, renewal of rolling stock and signalling equipment, and the question of the transalpine routes continue to face the Swiss Federal Railways with new problems requiring boldly conceived solutions.
To the man in the street, these problems are not always so obvious. Itis the purpose of this booklet, with its pictures, diagrams and explanatory text, to give in non-technical language, a survey of what has been achieved and of current and future problems; in this way the reader may be better informed about the Swiss Railways. Another aim of the booklet is to show that the Swiss Federal Railways are determined to make use of the most modern technical equipment in construction, operation and maintenance, and to avail themselves of all the resources of contemporary managerial thinking and planning to ensure that the undertaking will continue to be animated by a spirit of youthful enterprise
The condition of the book is generally good. The covers have one or two minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light wear along the edges and corners, but the spine is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
