ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Drawn by R. Creighton and engraved by John and Charles Walker. Published by Samuel Lewis (c. 1782 – 1865), the editor and publisher of topographical dictionaries and maps of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The aim of the texts was to give in 'a condensed form', a faithful and impartial description of each place. The firm of Samuel Lewis and Co. was based in London. Samuel Lewis the elder died in 1865. His son of the same name predeceased him in 1862.
PROVENANCE: A map published in 'A Topographical Dictionary of England with Historical and Statistical Descriptions", by Samuel Lewis; Published by S. Lewis and Co., London [Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of England]. Lewis' Dictionary first appeared in 1831 and continued until 1848 with the map undated for new railways, etc. This series of maps was added in the 1835 edition and continued in use through to 1838.
TYPE: Antique lithograph printed on paper.
VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.
CONDITION: Very good. Suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian paper is subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.
