This is an 8" Square Vegetable Bowl from Homer Laughlin in their BRIAR ROSE pattern featuring pink roses and green leaves and stems. It is a cream color with a silver rim. The shape is square with art deco accents. The bottom is marked Homer Laughlin, Made in USA, WELLS, with a peacock emblem. The date code is C 37 N 8, showing it was made in 1937.

Measures about 8 1/8" in outer diameter. Just under 2 1/2" tall.

No cracks or chips. This piece was used and shows signs of that usage: worn spots to the silver accent line, potential muting of color (I am not sure how vibrant the colors were to begin with!), and some surface utensil scrapes--none that go through the color. I took lots of photos so you can see if this will fit in with your current set. The silver rim is the most worn area--the interior of the bowl and the rose pattern did not suffer too much over the years of use.

It may seem odd to look backwards at dishes and bowls from the 1920’s-1970’s to be inspired about women’s rights but I am aware on a daily basis that any opportunity or privilege I have today was made possible by women who came before me—intelligent women like my mother who may have not been legally able to have her own checking account or attend certain universities, but still took action to shape a better future.
