N Scale
This N Scale Alco RSD15 from Broadway Limited is ideal for your 1950s to 1970s layout. The Alco RSD15 was built between 1956 and 1960 in Schenectady, New York and operated into the 1980s. The RSD15 was powered by an Alco 251 16-cylinder V-type engine. Rated at 2,400 horsepower, these versatile locomotives were suited for mainline freight and passenger service. The locomotive rode on 3-axle trucks with all axles powered by GE model 752 traction motors. The trucks have asymmetrical axle spacing because of the position of the traction motors. The six-motor design allowed for higher tractive effort at lower speeds than a similar four-motor design.
The RSD15s could be ordered with either a high or low short hood, and the low hood versions quickly earned the nickname "alligators" due to their unusually long noses.
Three models that were very similar in real life - C&O RSD7s and a the CP RSD17, "The Empress of Agincourt." The models are RSD15 models with the C&O and CP paint schemes applied. The RSD15 model features full Paragon4 sound and DCC for realistic sound and motor control. The Paragon4 sound system works with all Broadway Limited Rolling Thunder(TM) advanced sound systems. Other features of this locomotive include a heavy die cast chassis, smooth-running flywheel-equipped drive, directional lighting and magnetic knuckle couplers. It can be operated on all DCC systems as well as on standard DC railroads (with limited sound functionality). It has wheels profiled to operate on Code 55 and larger rail and curves of 9-3/4" radius and larger are recommended.
