Old Master drawing, attributed to Guido Reni (1575–1642). Sanguine on laid paper, ‘Guido Reni’ in black ink in an old hand at bottom left, numeral 3 in pencil at bottom right, likely a catalogue number. Overall good condition, minor creasing, fraying to extremities, remnants of old mounting tape to back of sheet. Modern giltwood frame under Museum Glass. Dimensions: Sheet: 7 x 10; overall: 15 ½ x 18 ½.

Depicting two seated male figures in a naturalistic setting, the central figure’s proper left arm outstretched towards a group of horses and at least one human figure appearing in the upper right corner.

The subject-matter of the scene depicted is uncertain. It could perhaps reference John of Patmos and the four horses from the Book of Revelation, but this is conjectural. While obviously the work of a master, the grounds for the ascription to Reni are unknown.
