The jewels are designed to be fitted with the correct horological tools e.g. SEITZ or similar jeweling tool. You will need to use the 1.59mm reamer. Take great care on 6117 and 6105 movements as due to the shape of the brass around the hole, it's easy to cut an oval hole.
On the 70 series movements, you will also need to ream the calendar plate as the jewel sits higher than the plate. This was simply to keep one common part on these jewel kits.
The jewel is not required on the 7S26C/4R36 movements as they are already jewelled on the bottom.
While the 56 series movements do not have the wear issue, the kit also fits those movements. You may wish to jewel those movements as a precaution or possibly improve amplitude.
The wear usually presents as -
- Poor power reserve
- Stopping issues
- Poor running amplitude and timekeeping
- "Gold Ring" around circumference of barrel or wear on the train plates
- Various other hard to solve and diagnose running issues
The jewels are made in Switzerland from "AAA" grade synthetic ruby.
