About Furoshiki:
Furoshiki are traditional, multi-purpose cloths that are used for carrying “ bento" lunch boxes, clothing, etc. and there are numerous traditional ways to tying them and books are available to show you how. Furoshiki are sometimes made of silk but since silk is expensive and delicate, cotton or synthetics ‘jinken’ that mimic silk are much more popular as you don’t have to worry about their getting wet or stained. In the post-war period, Nylon, Rayon and blends are the most popular fabric for furoshiki and silk is only used on rare occasions.
