A premium limited edition set featuring two titles from the essential live archive series for Beatles fans: Wings Over Australia, the culmination of Paul & Wings' 1975 Australian tour, and Wings Fly South. Details for both titles are as follows. PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS / WINGS OVER AUSTRALIA (2CD+1DVD) First, ‘Wings Over Australia’ captures the final concert of the 1975 Australian tour, held in Melbourne on November 13th. It features newly remastered soundboard audio and a DVD containing the full concert filmed in professional quality. This Melbourne show, known as a live staple from the tour, is the only complete concert recording from the 1975 tour, differing in content from the following year's US tour documented on ‘The Rock Show’. The setlist also differs from the subsequent US tour. Since ‘Speed of Sound’ hadn't been released yet, it's absent, replaced by “Little Woman Love/C Moon” and “Junior's Farm”. While a staple recording, past releases primarily used mono sources derived from the video, resulting in subpar audio quality. This new release, however, utilizes multiple source materials for mastering. The CD features the latest remastered audio, stereo-enhanced from the original mono source. Similarly, while previously distributed DVD versions often suffered from severe dropouts at the beginning or during playback, or were replaced with TV versions showing Japanese subtitles, this release features a brand-new, previously unseen edit version. It incorporates multiple source materials, undergoes video correction, and utilizes newly remastered audio for the latest restored version. Consequently, despite being based on the original video footage, the quality is significantly superior to past releases.
And “Wings Fly South” includes the latest remastered CD of the soundboard recording from the Perth concert, the tour's opening night, which aired on local radio at the time. The video DVD features the “Australia Tour Diary,” a chronological record of the tour, Additionally, since the first-ever Japan tour scheduled after Australia was canceled at the last minute, it includes the “Vintage TV Archive,” featuring the TV broadcast version of the Melbourne concert, which aired exclusively in Japan. The video DVD is particularly rich in highlights. The “Australia Tour Diary” is a documentary spanning two and a half hours, covering everything from arrival to the final day, including rare soundcheck footage, live clips, and private off-shots. The “Vintage TV Archive,” making its debut here, includes the TBS Sunday Special ‘All About Paul McCartney,’ broadcast exclusively in Japan as a world premiere following the Japan tour cancellation. This features both a concert version containing only live footage and a complete version, including commercials, of the program as originally aired. Originally broadcast on November 30, 1975, this program is a tear-jerker for longtime fans who saw it live back then. Crucially, it was never rebroadcast after its initial airing, making this footage incredibly rare. Furthermore, the concert footage, premiered worldwide for the first time, is from the Melbourne performance. While it's live footage, it features a unique edit with different camera angles and editing compared to the complete version. Although it has circulated in the past, only the setlist listed in the program's end credits is the actual TV broadcast footage. Naturally, the picture and sound quality are superior to previous releases, making this version highly rare as well. Therefore, like ‘Wings Over Australia’, this is a must-have for fans due to its collector's edition specifications unique to DAP.
