A very important book in the history of Bat Man - this is the first full interior art where Neal Adams converts Bat Man from the camp TV show trope of the 60’s to the dark, serious detective that we now know today.

Adams had previously inked and drawn a few covers & drawn a Bat Man figure in a book interior but this was the 1st full issue of him actually taking artistic control and the beginning of the title run in B&TB that changed Bat Man forever. It was only after his run of Brave and the fans reaction that he was allowed by Julius Schwatz to take over the Detective title and then finally the Bat Man title.

This issue won the Alley Award for 1968 for best full length story (the Alley became the Shazam awards in the 1970s’s)

quote:

Brave and the Bold #79 represents one of those pivotal moments in comic book history, certainly a pivotal moment in the history of Batman. It was a moment that started a movement with other great moments (one of which I have lined up for a future Undervalued Spotlight) and this movement back to a darker Batman eventually led to the publishing of the greatest Batman stories ever told!
