The Japan 2,000 Yen Banknote was issued by the Bank of Japan in 2000 to commemorate the G8 (Group of Eight) Summit which was held on July 21-23, 2000 in Okinawa. This multicolored banknote features the main gate of Shuri Castle on its obverse. The reverse of the paper bill depicts scrolls and calligraphy that reflects events in The Tale of Genji, the first novel in the world in the 11th century, and The Diary of Lady Murasaki circa 1010. The banknote does not contain a security thread, however, it bears a watermark that shows the Gate of Shuri Castle. It is 154 x 76 mm in size and is in uncirculated condition.
