What is a Spark Plug?
A spark plug is an important component of internal combustion engines, typically in outboards applications, to ignite the fuel and air mixture by providing a spark. Spark plugs have a metal threaded shell connected to the engine’s ignition system and protruding into the combustion chamber. The tip of the spark plug is where the spark occurs.
How Do Spark Plugs Function?
Spark plugs function by producing a spark of electricity that ignites the air/fuel mixture within the engine. The spark plug has a small electrode at its tip connected to the ignition system. This electrode produces a spark of electricity that jumps across a small gap to the ground electrode when the engine is running. This spark will ignite the mixture of air and fuel to enable the engine to work smoothly.
