Vintage 1930's Picnic Pocket Corkscrew & Cap Lifter
Mottled Plastic Handle
Advertising Republic Coal & Coke Co. Chicago
Made in USA
Description:
This is a pocket picnic corkscrew and bottle opener/cap lifter with an unusual design. The head of the corkscrew/cap lifter piece has a very unusual octagonal shape and is tapered to fit the sheath. The sheath has a brass ring molded in to keep the receiving end from expanding or breaking. The color of the sheath or case is deceiving from the photos; it is a mottled (pearl) cream color or at the most pale yellow. The corkscrew piece "pulls" out of the sheath rather than turn or screw and the sheath fits very loosely through the ring on the corkscrew piece to form the handle.
The advertising is as follows:
"REPUBLIC COAL & COKE CO."
"- CHICAGO -"
a round emblem representing the business as shown in one of the photos
"FUELS OF REAL MERIT"
