SIZE: The printed area including titles of the view is approximately 17 x 12.5 cm (6.75 x 5 inches) with a blank back (small).
ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Joseph Swan from an original study by J. Fleming. John Fleming (1792-1845) was a Scottish landscape painter who lived and worked in Greenock. He is best known for the series of views he painted for Swan's Lakes of Scotland, published at Glasgow in 1834. Joseph Swan (1796–1872) was an engraver and publisher active in Glasgow in the early nineteenth century.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Dunoon (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Omhain ) is the main town on the Cowal peninsula in the south of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is located on the western shore of the upper Firth of Clyde, to the south of the Holy Loch and to the north of Innellan. Dunoon Castle is a ruined castle in Dunoon. The castle sat upon a cone-shaped hill about 80 feet (24 m) high. Very little remains of the castle's structure today. Castle House, built in 1822, stands a few yards north of the castle ruins. The remains of the castle, and a surrounding area, are a scheduled monument. The castle was a royal residence in the 14th century, and in the 17th century fell into ruins .
