There are three version miniature, film and metallized see below for description of each.

Miniature -

WIMA plastic film capacitors in RM 2.5 mm are available as WIMA MKS 02 in metallized, re-curable version or as WIMA FKP 02 in impulse-resistant film / foil version. As a dielectric polyester or polypropylene film is used.

The WIMA series in the RM 2.5 mm are front-contacted and have a very low self-inductance due to the short length of the capacitor and its fully contacted electrodes. In addition, in principle, the pulse or current carrying capacity increases, the smaller the grid dimension can be designed, since - assuming the same film thickness - to achieve a certain capacitance value a larger strip length is needed.

WIMA capacitors in the RM 2.5 mm are ideally suited for RF decoupling up to the high-frequency range and open up new application possibilities in applications with a small footprint and high packing density.

Film -

In the film / film structure, the electrode is not vapor-deposited, but wound as a metal foil together with the dielectric film. The components manufactured in this way have due to the lower series resistance excellent pulse and current carrying capacity and a very high insulation resistance.

The film / foil construction is mainly used for capacitors of smaller capacity. An advantage of this design is the easy contactability of the metal foil coverings and the good pulse resistance. In order to avoid breakdowns due to weak spots in the dielectric, the selected insulating film thickness is always above the theoretical values resulting from the specific dielectric strength.

WIMA film / foil capacitors are available in two dielectric variants in the grid dimensions 5 mm to 15 mm. Polyester dielectric (PET) capacitors are suitable for general applications such as coupling, decoupling and blocking. Polypropylene capacitors (PP) are used in the high-frequency range. These include resonant circuits, power supplies, line deflection circuits, oscillator circuits and the audio section.

Metallized -

For metallized capacitors, thin aluminum layers (about 0.03 μm) are vapor-deposited as an electrode on a plastic film. In a breakdown evaporated by the short-circuit current of the thin metal coating around the defect and it creates an insulating "yard". The capacitor remains functional (self-healing). Metallized capacitors are characterized by their very favorable capacity / volume ratio.

By using ultra-thin films and corresponding manufacturing experience, high capacitance values can be produced in very small housings. Polypropylene capacitors (PP) are used in the high-frequency range. These include resonant circuits, power supplies, line deflection circuits, oscillator circuits and the audio section.
