Author and content information
Karl Stig-Erland Larsson [ˌkɑːɭ stiːɡ æɭand ˈlɑːʂɔn] (born August 15, 1954 in Skelleftehamn, Västerbottens län; † November 9, 2004 in Stockholm) was a Swedish journalist and writer. He became internationally known as the editor of the anti-racist magazine Expo and above all through his crime novels in the Millennium series, which were only published posthumously. ...
According to his friend and biographer Kurdo Baksi, Larsson saw his friends rape a girl when he was fourteen and did nothing about it. From then on, burdened by this feeling of guilt, he dedicated his life to the fight against social ills. The experience can also be seen as a motif for his novels. ...
In 1991, together with Anna-Lena Lodenius, he published the book "Extremhögern", which deals with Swedish right-wing extremism. After seven people were murdered by right-wing extremists, he founded the Expo Foundation in 1995, which also includes the magazine of the same name. Since then he has been the editor of the anti-fascist magazine Expo, which has been the target of right-wing extremist attacks. Right-wing activists smashed shop windows, threats reached the printers and in June 1999 a car bomb detonated seriously injured an Expo author.
Larsson was considered one of the world's leading experts on fascist, right-wing extremist, neo-Nazi, but also right-wing conservative movements, which he equated with extremist movements. He came from a social democratic family and described himself as a communist. ...
In addition, Larsson wrote crime novels in which he criticized social ills in Sweden. In the years before his death he wrote three crime novels about the main characters "Mikael Blomkvist", a journalist, and "Lisbeth Salander", a whimsical hacker. Larsson changed his first name from Stig to Stieg to avoid confusion with the screenwriter and director Stig Larsson.
Stieg Larsson died of a heart attack in 2004.

Plot
»An ambitious young journalist offers Mikael Blomkvist a story for his Millennium magazine that couldn't be more scandalous. Public officials and dignitaries in Swedish society abuse young Russian women who are forcibly brought into the country and forced into prostitution. When Lisbeth Salander gets involved in the research, she comes across a piquant detail: Nils Bjurman, her former supervisor, seems to be involved in the white slave trade. A little later, the journalist and Bjurman are found dead. The murder weapon bears Lisbeth's fingerprints. She is pilloried and flees. Only Mikael Blomkvist believes in her innocence and starts investigating on her own. His research leads into Lisbeth's past. A past that soon teaches him to fear.
