DESCRIPTION:
Extremely difficult to find. I've personally only seen 2 copies in 20 years and I purchased them both. This is a 1962 Saim Moncalieri Thin Paper Pele graded BVG 6. Look at the pics, this is not like any of the other Saim Pele's you've seen. The card has essentially the same front as the Plastic back, but is unmounted. It is just a thin paper card.
Unfortunately there are a couple of condition issues and Beckett probably should not have given this a BVG 6. I am honest about my card conditions, unlike some other sellers. This card has some edge chipping as you can see. Also, on the back near the top it looks like this card was stacked with another and some of the ink faintly bled onto this card. Although it does not affect the card condition, I will also mention that this card was graded in 2015 and was not sandwiched between clear plastic like currently graded paper cards so it has some waviness within the holder. All that said, this card is still one of the rarest Pele issues I'm aware of. As of the day this listing was updated, the PSA Population Report shows 5 copies of these thin paper Pele's graded with NONE higher than PSA 3.
The 1962 Saim Moncalieri set was unlike any other set at the time in Italy. The manufacturer planned for 258 cards in the set, but only ended up printing 187. Not only were they some of the first to sell cards via vending machines, also, unique for the time, they printed each card in 3 different formats, mounted on a plastic back (most common), printed on cardboard (also quite common), and printed on thin paper (these are very hard to find). This means a complete set would be 187 x 3 = 561 cards. Try completing that set!
I've been asked about shipping in the past so let me say this. I ship expensive cards with Registered Mail. This takes 10-14 days on average for delivery. It is by far the safest way to ship as the card is under lock and key the entire way to you, which is why it takes longer for delivery. Also, I do not make money on shippinig. I charge enough to make sure the the package is shipped and fully insured based on actual weight and value. If there are any extra shipping charges left over, I always refund them to the buyer.
