Krusenstern in 1803-1806 made scientific discoveries throughout the Pacific.

The Marquesas Islands are south of Hawaii.
They are probably the most heavily tattooed of the Polynesians.
The Text pages included describe the tattooing process a bit.
People from the Marquesas Islands were the original settlers
of the Hawaiian Islands and Easter Island.
In Hawaii there descendants became known as Menehune, and were enslaved tortured and killed off by the 2nd group of settlers from Tahiti a few hundred years later.
the Tahitian word 'manahune'
means 'small worthless person', 'small in worth/value',
a 'slave'...
NOT small in stature, NOT small like an elf.
the word 'menehune' was mistranslated
by Cook, Clarke, Bligh, Vancouver, etc.
as a small person, an elf-like person.
