Theses where my thoughts when I designed these vents and views of what
people wanted on Facebook to help with design. Because what I like might not be
what others like, it helps to make a good product.
I have land rover defender and wanted some nice strong CNC machined
bonnets vents. Many are not true aluminium billet bonnet vents, they screw
stainless steel mesh underneath the outer rim. Doing that make the inner mesh
smaller as they have to fit into the wing. I don’t like that idea rather it had
the same size outer rim as stock. It seems a shame when you pay all that
money for a billet, and not use it to make the inner mesh. I know why they do
this, as it saves a lot of machining time, but I’d rather it looked good. I
like the honeycomb mesh and Facebook helped with this. I wanted to chamfer the
edges to catch the light, and give a 3d depth to the vent. Also, I wanted no
flow restriction keeping maximum size possible. I also wanted depth to the
vent, and not just being a flat plate, so I’ll add border with radius. It will
take a lot longer to machine an item like this but really feel it will look so
much better for it.
The Vents are 10mm thick made out of high quality 6082 billet aluminium
The honeycomb mesh is deep in depth, CNC machined in a custom Jigs. This
helps catch the light and makes them pop in the light. I have videos of this on
Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Being honeycomb mesh and using the standard border size, the inner area
is much bigger than many aftermarket designs. This help with flow and probably
the highest flow in the market performance wise.
The mounting holes are machined for the Torx pin security stainless
steel screws, they are supplied with the vents.
You won’t have to worry about washing your defender or using screen
wash. You can use TFR (Traffic Film Remover) and not worry who washes your Land
Rover by using Cerakote coatings.
Every part that is Cerakoted is done in house, has to be cleaned first.
Then it has to be blasted with aluminium oxide This takes any flaws in part
out. Its then blowed down and put in a bath of acetone. I then spray the part
with a special Cerakote spray gun in a spray booth. Then the parts are left to
go hard and flatten. It’s a very thin coating which is used on many high-end
products, like firearms but it’s not cheap.
We use Cerakote C
series ceramic coatings. Much better than anodising, don’t have to worry about
chemicals. It’s a more expensive coating to anodising (anodising is cheap) It’s
also hard to scratch being a ceramic and non-stick. Not limited by anodising
colours. Worth researching the coating to see what you think. Some info about
coating below
If you want a colour, I don’t stock in Cerakote there is a charge of
£35.00 plus vat for custom colour which I order in. This should be enough to
coat a whole set of hinges for Defender.
