Acceptable. Good reading condition, with signs of ageing and wear to the covers.

Inside:
Good reading condition. Pages are tanned. Text and illustrations are clear and unannotated. Binding is tight (but see below). A few small smudges and light stains on occasional page edges and margins, commensurate with general handling and reading use. Gilt edging is bright but scuffed.

Buyers please note:
- Occasional foxing, mainly on preliminaries, end pages, and around some edges and margins. Some printed pages are foxed but this does not affect readability.
- Hinges are cracked (see photographs). Binding remains tight, with all pages attached and intact.
- Front flyleaf is creased near the spine. A few small folds and tears on the upper edge.
- pp.467-470 are tanned and creased on the upper edge, due to pages being misaligned, thus overhanging slightly at the top.

Covers:
Acceptable. Stable. Text and illustrations are clear on front, with some light rubbing. Cloth surfaces and edges are lightly soiled, commensurate with general handling and reading use. Corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed. Some rubbing and small dents around the board edges.

Buyers please note:
- Spine titles and decorations have rubbed and faded. Spine cloth has darkened.
- Small tears to the spine ends, notably at the head of the spine.
- A few small scuffs and stains on the cloth surfaces and edges.
