The pieces are constructed with a durable ABS resin plastic shell, internally weighted with metal inserts, 

finished with an electroplated exterior that includes dark shading on the edges to highlight design details.

The bottoms of the pieces are padded with smooth PU leather (faux leather) 

to protect the chessboard surface.
