This item is an educational kit from Snellius Minerals LLC designed to highlight the differences between the optical properties of isotropic and anisotropic minerals. The kit consists of natural calcite, fluorite, tourmaline, and spinel crystals. You'll want a polariscope as well to utilize the kit! The first photo is of the kit when viewed with crossed polarizers using a polariscope. The video included shows off the pleochroism of the tourmaline crystal in plane polarized light, and the extinction of the isotropic spinel and fluorite with crossed polarizers.
