Z is for Zinc Sunscreen – never leave the house without it! The long Australian summer means making the most of the good weather – often including epic games of backyard cricket or days at the beach full of sun, sand and surf. Once zinc is applied, it sits on top of the skin, rather than being absorbed, to block harmful rays from penetrating the skin and save unsuspecting punters from a nasty burn. Not only does zinc protect us from the sun, it’s popular at children’s school sports days where they can show off their team’s colours by decorating their faces with the cream, which often comes in pink, blue, green, red and yellow sticks.
