V is for Victa Lawnmower – the soundtrack to suburban Australia. The Victa Lawnmower has been cutting lawns since 1952, when the first prototype was made from scrap metal and a peach tin in a garage by Mervyn Victor Richardson. While not the first lawnmower to be invented, the Victa was comparatively lighter and more powerful, creating significant demand for the product. Now almost 70 years on, Victa Lawnmowers are well and truly entrenched in Australian society and also exported abroad.
