2 Argentine Lignum Vitae (Bulnesia Sarmientoi) knife scales 5"x1.5"x3/8" for your knife building, sliding door handles, gun grips, and many other woodworking projects. This wood bears a striking resemblance to its famous tropical cousin "Lignum Vitae," and makes an excellent, affordable alternative. An olive-green to rich brown wood with straight grain, it has a satiny feel and a spicy-sweet fragrance. Like its namesake, it is incredibly dense and quite oily. Some common uses for Lignum Vitae include: bowls, platters, carvings, bottle stoppers, chess pieces, tool handles, table legs, spindles, finials, candlesticks and whatever else your imagination can conjure up!
- Color can range from a pale yellowish olive, to a deeper forest green or dark brown to almost black
- Grain has a unique feathered pattern
- The color tends to darken with age, especially upon exposure to light
- Polishes to a fine luster due to its high natural oil content
- Exceptional wood for turning on the lathe.
Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.
Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.
