Built-in sports apps cover running, biking, swimming, strength training, surf, windsurf, and kiteboarding. The surf activity profile records waves surfed, maximum speed, and distance. Tide data keeps you current on ocean conditions. Surfline Sessions integration creates a video of every wave you ride in front of a Surfline camera. For kiteboarding, elevation tracking shows how high your jumps reached.

A built-in 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter work alongside GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo for accurate position tracking in any environment. All-day health monitoring tracks heart rate, sleep, Pulse Ox, and respiration. The Instinct 2 has a 45mm case (45 × 45 × 14.5 mm) and weighs 1.83 oz, with up to 28 days battery in smartwatch mode and up to 30 hours in GPS mode. The Instinct 2S has a 40mm case (40 × 40 × 13.3 mm) and weighs 1.48 oz, with up to 21 days battery in smartwatch mode and up to 22 hours in GPS mode. Both models share the same core features — sports apps, multi-GNSS, health monitoring, toughness ratings, and connectivity. The 2S is designed specifically for a smaller wrist.

What surf features does it have?

The surf activity profile records the number of waves surfed, maximum speed, and distance. Tide data keeps you up to date on ocean conditions. Surfline Sessions integration automatically creates a video of every wave you ride in front of a Surfline camera. Windsurfing and kiteboarding profiles track GPS position, speed, distance, and heart rate; kiteboarding also records elevation so you can see how high your jumps were.

How water resistant is it?

Both the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S are water-rated to 100 meters. They are also thermal- and shock-resistant, built to military standard 810. Safe for swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and open-water activities.

What health metrics does it track?

All-day health monitoring includes heart rate, sleep tracking, Pulse Ox blood oxygen saturation, and respiration rate. VO2 Max and training features help serious athletes measure and improve performance. Note: Pulse Ox is not available in all countries. What is the Solar edition?

The Solar editions add a solar charging lens that harvests energy from sunlight to extend battery life. The Instinct 2 Solar delivers unlimited battery in smartwatch mode with 3 hours of direct sunlight (50,000 lux) per day, and up to 48 hours GPS with continuous direct sun. The Instinct 2S Solar delivers up to 51 days in smartwatch mode and up to 28 hours GPS with solar. Solar charging assumptions are based on 50,000 lux intensity — actual results vary by conditions.
