You are bidding on a very rare and highly collectible vintage hardcover book titled The Evolution of Physics - The Growth of Ideas From the Early Concepts to Relativity and Quanta. The book was authored by two geniuses of the 20th century, Albert Einstein and Leopold Infeld. Published in Cambridge at the University Press, 1938. This is the very scarce first printing of the first edition in blue hardcover with gold lettering and gold illustration on the cover.
"The book is a simple chat between you and us. Our aim will be accomplished if these pages give you some idea of the eternal struggle of the inventive human mind for a fuller understanding of the laws governing physical phenomena." (from Authors' Preface). Both authors were professors at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, New Jersey.
Book is illustrated.
Book features blue cloth binding with gold lettering and gold illustration on cover. Covers firmly attached with no cracking or splitting of hinges. The spine shows even sun-darkeninf and a few small spots. Pages are very clean and tightly bound. Previous owner name/date on first blank page (W. S. Brooke, Oxford, March 1939). Book shows some gentle wear and remains in very good condition.
