You are bidding on a rare hardcover book titled Swiss Pictures Drawn With Pen And Pencil. With Illustrations by Mr. Whymper, and Others. A New and Enlarged Edition. Published by The Religious Tract Society, London. There is no date stated but this book comes the the 1880's period.

This is the increasingly scarce 214 page undated edition with chromolithographic frontispiece 'the Summit of the Aiguille Verte', with many xylographic illustrations (after drawings by Edw. Whymper) of which 24 are full-page and 1 chromolithographic plate 'Mont-Blanc from above Morges.'

Book features original red cloth beautifully decorated with gilt animal scene framed in decorative black lines. Richly illustrated with engravings, town and village views, landscapes, mountains, mountaineering, glaciers, costumes, animals, railways, etc. For this new edition much fresh matter has been introduced and upwards of thirty new illustrations have been added a large proportion by Swiss artists they will be found worthy to take their place alongside those by Mr. Whymper, which have been so greatly admired in the earlier editions as we all know.

This is a large size book measuring 11 1/4" high and 8" wide. 

Spine has ornate gilt design with gold lettering. Spine shows some sun-fading. Pages are clean and tightly bound. Pages have gilt edge on all three sides. 

 The binding shows a little bit of wear/soil. Book remains in overall very good condition.

This book would be a great addition to a collection!
