Mid-19th Century Male Fairy - An Original Theatrical/Pantomime Costume Design

Pencil and watercolours on paper which is affixed to old backing card. An interesting representation of a male fairy costume, most likely for a theatrical or pantomime production. It features wing-like structures around the shoulders with lace covering the arms and legs and dark (textured?) tights. It also has antenna-like stems to the forehead. Annoyingly, it appears to have had some pencil text rubbed-out in the lower left area which could have helped with the identification, there are still some traces of surface indentations where the text was, so there is an outside chance that the information could be retrieved (possibly under ultra violet?). Undated, though the style appears c.1850-70’s.

Approx. 160x295mm., the main issue is that something has pierced through the drawing around half way up the bodice, the reverse showing an old tape repair. In addition there are patches of old staining and soiling present, but I suppose we must be thankful that it survived. Overall, a quite remarkable and most unusual costume.
