The Switch Your Table Saw Should Have Come With.
A standard toggle switch on a stationary power tool has two problems: you have to take your hand off the work to reach it, and if the power goes out while the blade is spinning, the tool comes back on by itself when power is restored. The POWERTEC 71054 Magnetic Paddle Switch fixes both. The large red paddle stop is large enough to hit with your knee, thigh, or forearm — your hands stay on the workpiece and the machine stops. The magnetic restart protection means if your circuit breaker trips or the lights flicker, the switch drops out and the tool stays off until you manually press the green start button again. No surprise restarts. No tool powering up unattended.
Rated at 120V / 1/2 HP / 9A continuous, this switch handles the standard stationary tool load — table saw, router table, drill press, band saw, jointer, or any 120V single-phase tool within the HP rating. The green recessed ON button requires deliberate finger pressure to start — it won't activate from a bump, a leaning workpiece, or an accidental brush. The unit is UL, TUV, CSA, CE, and ETL listed — full North American and international safety certification for a safety-critical electrical component. Fits standard deep gang boxes and the POWERTEC 71834 gang box.

Two Buttons, Two Jobs — The Safety Design Logic
🔴 Large Red Paddle — Emergency Stop
- Large surface area — designed to be hit with the knee, thigh, forearm, or hip when hands can't leave the workpiece
- Positioned for easy reach without looking away from the blade or bit
- Cuts power immediately on contact — no need to locate a small toggle or rocker switch under pressure
- The only button you should be able to hit accidentally — stopping is always the safe outcome of an accidental contact
- Large size also makes it accessible with work gloves on when fine motor control is limited
🟢 Recessed Green Start — Deliberate Activation Only
- Recessed below the button surround — requires deliberate finger pressure to activate; cannot be triggered by bumping, leaning a workpiece against the switch, or incidental contact
- Smaller contact surface — must be intentionally pressed, not hit accidentally
- After any power interruption (outage, tripped breaker), the magnetic dropout holds the switch open — the green button must be pressed manually before the tool will run again
- Green color signals safe-to-start status — operator confirms readiness before energizing the tool
Magnetic Restart Protection — The Feature That Matters Most
What Happens When Power Is Interrupted — With and Without Magnetic Dropout
❌ Standard Toggle Switch — No Magnetic Protection
Power goes out while the table saw is running. Tool de-energizes. Power comes back — tool immediately re-energizes. Blade is spinning before anyone is positioned at the machine. Workpiece left on the table is now being contacted by a running blade. Operator who stepped away during the outage returns to a running saw.
✅ Magnetic Paddle Switch — This Product
Power goes out while the table saw is running. Magnetic dropout immediately opens the switch contacts and holds them open. Power comes back — tool stays off. The green start button must be manually pressed before the tool will run again. Operator has full control over when the tool re-energizes after any power interruption.
This feature is particularly critical in shops where multiple people work at different times, or where the shop is left unattended while tools are plugged in. It is also required by OSHA for certain stationary equipment in commercial shop environments. For a home shop, it's the difference between a near-miss and an incident when a breaker trips unexpectedly.
Safety Certifications
This switch carries all major North American and international safety listings for electrical components in stationary power tool applications:
UL Listed
TUV Certified
CSA Listed
CE Marked
ETL Listed
Full certification listing is relevant when installing a safety switch on equipment in commercial, educational, or insurance-regulated shop environments where listed components may be required.
🔧 Installation Notes — Read Before Ordering
- Gang box required, not included: This switch fits standard deep gang boxes. Compatible with POWERTEC 71834 gang box (sold separately) and standard deep gang boxes with extension rings available at electrical supply stores.
- Power cord required, not included: A suitable power cord for your tool's amperage and outlet type must be wired to the switch — not supplied with this unit.
- Hardware note: If replacing a switch with M4 mounting screws, 6-32 screws and nuts may be required to mount this switch in the gang box. Standard hardware store item.
- Wiring: Standard single-phase 120V wiring. If you are not comfortable wiring stationary power equipment, consult a qualified electrician before installation.
Key Product Benefits:
- Magnetic Restart Protection: Switch drops out on power interruption and must be manually re-started — prevents tool from re-energizing unattended after a power outage or tripped breaker.
- Large Red Paddle Stop — Hands-Free Emergency Shutdown: Knee, thigh, or hip activation allows emergency stop without removing hands from the workpiece — critical in the moment when reaching a small switch isn't an option.
- Recessed Green Start Button — Deliberate Activation Only: Recessed profile prevents accidental startup from bumping, leaning stock, or incidental contact — tool only starts when intentionally pressed.
- 120V / 1/2 HP / 9A Continuous Rating: Covers standard stationary tool loads — table saw, router table, drill press, band saw, jointer, and similar 120V single-phase tools within the HP rating.
- UL, TUV, CSA, CE, ETL Certified: Full North American and international safety listing for safety-critical electrical components — appropriate for home shop, commercial, and educational environments.
- Universal Gang Box Fit: Designed for standard deep gang boxes — compatible with POWERTEC 71834 and standard deep gang boxes with extension rings.
PRO TIP: Mount the switch at knee height on the front leg of your tool stand, not at waist or chest height. The hands-free paddle stop is most useful when your hands are occupied at the table surface — a knee-height switch can be hit with a leg motion without any arm movement at all. At waist height, you'd still need to move your arm to reach it. The lower the switch, the more "genuinely hands-free" the emergency stop becomes in practice.
Stationary Tools This Switch Is Designed For
Table saw — primary application; knee-accessible emergency stop while both hands are on the work or fence
Router table — hands-free stop when bit contact requires immediate power cut without letting go of the workpiece
Drill press — safety switch upgrade for repetitive drilling operations where stock can catch and kick
Band saw — emergency stop accessible without reaching across the table or past the blade
Jointer — immediate stop capability while feeding stock with both hands on the workpiece
Bench grinder — accessible emergency stop for a machine that can catch material suddenly
Any 120V single-phase stationary power tool within the 1/2 HP / 9A continuous rating requiring a safety switch upgrade
