Description
An Olympic medal dating from 2001 or thereabouts and commemorating the period of office of IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch (1980 - 2001). I would say that this medal was in mint condition, but please take a good look at my photographs and form your own opinion. The case is broken at the hinges, but still held together by the lining.
Made from a white metal (pewter?), Diameter 65 mm, Weight 133.8 grams, Medallists Huguenin and Kramer.
The obverse design shows a bust of Samaranch facing forwards. Around the periphery is the legend "Juan Antonio Samaranch / IOC President 1980 - 2001". The reverse has the Olympic rings near the base, with some laurel leaves above, separating the legends "INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE" and "IN RECOGNITION OF THE UNIFIER OF THE OLYMPIC MOVEMENT". The medallists' names "HUGUENIN + KRAMER" are in small script at the base.
