HIGH QUALITY AND VERY FINE CHINESE CLOISONNE COVERED JAR - WITH STAND
This listing is for a vintage Chinese cloisonné ginger jar with a domed lid. The ginger jar has a lid that sits flush against the opening with a cloisonné pattern that is continuous and seamless between jar and lid. The beautifully hand made enamel motif is decorated with pastel blooms of pink, white and yellow on branches that wrap around the entire jar, visited by a single black and white sparrow. The scene is set against a gorgeous sky blue ground crafted with copper spiral wire workings of clouds throughout the entire piece. The mouth and base of the jar are encircled by a lovely contrasting burgundy pattern; upon lifting the heavyset cap a hidden ring of bright green enamel inlaid with copper-wired circles is revealed.
The composition is of a solid copper with a heft felt especially in the fortified capped top that sits securely atop the opening, and has a wide, flat rim of copper that simply gleams for its age, as opposed to the typically darker patinas of brass that is quicker to mature. The interior of the jar and underside of the base are enameled in a bright turquoise finished in a protective, glossy glaze. Our favorite feature though is the wonderful naturalistic detailing paid to parts of the tree branch and bird, enhanced with an added depth to the enamel design with an inlaid, realistic grain fill, best described in the photos themselves when expanded.
The jar is in excellent condition with no damage and retains all of its vivid enamel inside and out, with no loss to coloration; it comes with a dark wood lacquered stand that elevates the careful details seen around the base and compliments the deep burgundy banded patterns along the jar’s top and bottom. A great addition for cloisonné collectors or an absolutely stunning conversation piece for display.
