General Compagnon has written the book from first hand perspective, having served as a Captain under Leclerc. It's a translation and so occasionally suffers an awkwardness that comes from different modes of expression, but for the most part is extremely well done. He covers the entire landing, breakout and encirclement of two German armies in the Falaise Poche (pocket), giving fair treatment in his description to all of the armies involved - American, British, Canadian, Polish, French and German. It is well researched. The many excellent photos, some more illustrative than from the actual battles, add to the perspective. Extremely well done and certainly worth the price.
