Wonderful SET of 4 STREW microscope slides of cleaned Diatoms from:
1) Dunkirk, Maryland, USA (marine fossil diatoms, Miocene): RARE SAMPLE!
2)
Valmarecchia (RN), Italy (freshwater fossil diatoms): EXTREMELY RARE SAMPLE!
3) Simbirsk, Russia (marine fossil diatoms, Paleogene): RARE SAMPLE!
4) Lake Werdersee, Bremen, Germany (freshwater recent diatoms)
Microscope images are in DIC and in phase contrast (20x objectives)
The more you buy, the more chance you have of finding different species!

In high refractive index PRIME MOUNTANT (refractive index > 1,7)! All strewn Diatoms are guaranteed to be fixed directly to the UNDERSIDE of the custom optical quality cover glass (and not as is common, on the microscope slide) for maximum resolution and contrast! The reason for this: microscope objective performance drops quickly noticeably as the specimen distance from the cover glass increases. Microscope objective lenses are designed to be optimally corrected for objects located immediately below the coverslip!
(The term “strew” scientifically and universally means that in some cases you can find intact specimens but also some broken ones - especially in the case of some fossil samples - because this is how the natural sample looks before any laboratory treatment: the scientific value and beauty of a strew slide is a glance at what the original sample looks like. If, on the other hand, you want a preparation containing all selected diatoms, you can purchase our microscope slides of selected, micromanipulated specimens)
Diatom Lab produces prepared microscope slides of the highest quality: our laboratory stands out for the use of unique cutting-edge materials, technologies and procedures. We produce microscope slides for many important microscope manufacturing companies, government agencies, universities, laboratories, researchers and scientists, but also private individuals and amateurs are welcome. Our diatom test slides are also purchased and used by several microscope manufacturing companies for quality control of their lenses and for demonstration purposes towards their customers. Our materials and techniques are therefore not amateur and require cutting-edge, expensive instrumentation that goes beyond that used by a average, non-specialized laboratory. All our products are made in our internal laboratory. Our proprietary high refractive index mountants are not for sale as they require additional specific procedures and tools to be used.
