Seiho Takeuchi (竹内栖鳳, 1864-1942) was a Japanese-style painter. He was a great master of the Japanese art world. Teishitsu Gigeiin (Imperial art expert). Received the first Bunka Kunsho (Order of Culture) in 1937. Founded the Chikujokai private painting school. His famous pupils were Shoen Uemura, Suisho Nishiyama, Goun Nishimura, Shoha Ito, Bakusen Tsuchida, Chikkyo Ono, Yoson Ikeda, Kansetsu Hashimoto, Shinsen Tokuoka, Kado Yoshioka, Keika Kanashima, Kagaku Murakami, Kashu Iguchi, Kan Hamada, etc.
 

  • 1881: Became a disciple of Bairei Kono. Among “the big four of Bairei” (Seiho Takeuchi, Hobun Kikuchi, Kako Tsuji, Kokyo Taniguchi) he showed the talent especially.
  • 1887: Graduated the Kyoto-fu Gagakko (Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting).
  • 1889: Served the Kyoto-fu Gagakko (Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting).
  • 1891: Established the Seinen Gaka Konshin-kai group with Shunkyo Yamamoto and Hobun Kikuchi.
  • 1893: Exhibited the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition.
  • 1899: Recommended for a professor of the Kyoto-shiritsu Bijutsu Kogei Gakko (Kyoto City Specialist School of Arts and Crafts).
  • 1900: Received the silver award at the Paris Universal Exposition.
  •        : Went on a inspection tour in Europe for 7 months.
  • 1907: Served as a judge of the Bunten from 1907 to 1918.
  • 1909: Became a processor of the Kyoto-shiritsu Kaiga Senmon Gakko (Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting).
  • 1913: Became a member of the Teishitsu Gigeiin (Imperial art expert).
  • 1919: Became a member of the Teikoku Bijutsu-in (the Imperial Fine Arts Academy).
  • 1924: Awarded the Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest civilian award.
  • 1931: Awarded the Goethe Prize of the City of Frankfurt
  • 1937: Became a member of the Teikoku Geijutsu-in (the Imperial Art Academy).
  • 1944: Became a member of the Teishitsu Gigeiin (Imperial art expert)
