Formulators Alcohol

This is a special formulation which can be used by both professionals and amateurs who wish to make perfumes, colognes, eau de parfume, eau de toilette, cologne splashes, room sprays etc. It allows the simple addition and blending of essential oils and fragrances into solution with or without water. Formulators alcohol is also used in the production of DIFFUSER OILS.


The only difference between this and perfumers alcohol is that perfumers alcohol contains isopropyl myristrate which is not soluble in water so will form separate layers. Formulators alcohol is 100% soluble in water meaning its ideal for perfumes and aftershaves.


The blended solutions remain clear and free from cloudiness.


Our Formulators alcohol forms a clear solution with most fragrance oils, but some which are specifically designed for use in candle-making can cause issues. Check with your fragrance manufacturer that your oils are ethanol-soluble


The 3 main ingredients of Formulator alcohol are:

  1. Ethanol (denatured) - This evaporates quickly as it is warmed by skin temperature releasing the fragrances evenly over the surface.
  2. Isopropyl Alcohol IPA
  3. Dipropylene glycol - a skin safe cosolvent which allows the fragrance oils to be solubilised in the alcohol carrier. This helps to control the evaporation of the alcohol so that it does not flash off too quickly.

Warning
Be sure to test the ingredients by placing a single drop of each on a discreet area of skin to check for any adverse reactions. If redness or irritation ensues after 24 hours, reformulate the ingredients to suit you.
Be sure to use coloured glass bottles, this is because the coloured bottle serves the dual purpose of both looking attractive and helping to shield the contents of the bottle from UV light that can eventually cause a fragrance to deteriorate. The perfumer’s alcohol acts as a preservative/fixative but coloured bottles add just one more layer of protection.
