Hi-Way Gas is artist R J Bond's nostalgic portrayal of classic American cars with their passengers, pausing on a Summer's evening at a gas station, shaded by palm trees, somewhere in the Western United States at a brief moment in time, during the bygone romantic decade of rock `n' roll.
The gas station painted complete with period perfect pumps, signage, uniformed attendants and coke machine, provides a perfect backdrop for the chrome laden, tail finned automobiles, lovingly reproduced with intricate detail and meticulous accuracy. While human interest is captured with the humour of a child desperate for the rest room and the added attraction of ground squirrels scurrying about in the foreground.
The Cars
The featured cars are a 53 Buick Super, 58 Edsel Citation, 57 Chrysler New Yorker, 55 Chevy Bel Air and just peaking out of the workshop a 57 Chevy.
Technical details
The original artwork took months from initial research and drawings to completion, using designers water based gouache and often with the aid of a magnifying lamp for the painstaking detail evident throughout the composition, including the individually painted blades of grass and tarmac pebbles.

Printed on 308gsm, acid free, archival grade paper. Edition of the prints is strictly limited to only 400 plus 40 artist's proofs. Each print will be individually signed and numbered. Quality of the prints is such that they are virtually indistinguishable from the original painting.
