This listing is for a box containing reptile bone fragments from Oklahoma USA dating back to the Permian period. The various bone fragments come from species such as captorhinus aguti, cardiocephalus sp and other ancient, tiny reptiles. Fragments can consist of parts of limb bones, claws, jaws, teeth, vertebrae etc. Each purchased item consists of a randomly selected pinchful of bone fragments in a perspex box with a 4x magnifying lid.

WHAT WAS THE PERMIAN PERIOD?

The Permian period began at the end of the carboniferous period 299 million years ago, The begining of this period saw the Earth's climate become drier and more arid than the lush climate of the carboniferous period that had seen much of the Earth's surface covered by vast forests. Most of the Earth's land mass was concentrated into a single supercontinent known as Pangaea. The end of the Permian period saw the greatest mass extinction even in Earth's history, greater even than the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event of 65 million years ago that wiped out the dinosaurs. Over 90% of marine life, and 70% of land animals were wiped out at the beginning of the Triassic. Some of those Amphibian/Reptile species that survived this event would later evolve into dinosaurs during the Triassic Period.
