Published by the Slaidburn Village Archive, 148 pages. Paperback (N5887)

This book provides a fascinating and detailed history of the various types of historical lime-kilns in the Hodder and Loud valleys in the Ribble Valley area of Lancashire, and includes descriptions of the technical approaches to lime-burning, the labour involved in its processes, and the important impact this industry had on agricultural development.

Chapters include Details of the Structure of a Field Limekiln, Cross Section of a Field Limekiln, Limeburning and the use of Lime (including early history, construction, operation, lighting and burning), Clamp Limekilns, The Use of Marl, and Limekilns within the Survey Area (including Bashall Eaves, Bolton by Bowland, Borland Forest, Bowland with Leagram, Chipping, Easington, Gisburn Forest, Great Mitton, Grindleton, Newton in Bowland, Slaidburn, Thornley with Wheatley, and Waddington and West Bradford).

Condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has some minor scuffs, and light wear along the edges and corners, but the spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
