Original Vintage 1977 King's Arms Tavern Restaurant Menu 416 East Duke of Gloucester Street Williamsburg Virginia #1
The King's Arms Tavern opened in early February 1772, when the Williamsburg tavernkeeper Jane Vobe moved her business to Duke of Gloucester Street and advertised in the Virginia Gazette that she was to be found "opposite to the Raleigh, at the Sign of The King's Arms." Vobe kept one of the town's most successful taverns: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Nelson and Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben were among her customers, and members of the Ohio Company met in her rooms in May 1778. After the Virginia capital moved to Richmond in 1780 her trade declined, and in November 1785 she announced that she was leaving Williamsburg for Manchester in Chesterfield County, where she kept a tavern until her death in 1786. Colonial Williamsburg later reconstructed the tavern on its Duke of Gloucester Street site and has operated it since as a costumed dining tavern serving 18th-century-rooted fare.
It measures 7" x 5.25" closed and 10.5" x 7" open
