This is Police Quest 3: The Kindred, the 1991 Sierra On-Line police adventure for MS-DOS PCs, in the original big box. This copy is the 16-color EGA version on six 3.5" double-density floppy disks: a startup disk and game disks 1 through 5. Each disk is labeled Ver 1.0, and Game Disk 1 carries its serial number. The 256-color VGA version was sold separately, which is why a VGA exchange form came packed in the box.
This copy came from the estate of an avid collector of vintage computer games. I don't have period hardware to run it on, so the disks haven't been tested.
The box includes the outer printed sleeve and the white inner tray. Inside are the Lytton Police Department Procedure and Operations Manual and the Sierra Game Manual. The paper inserts are a Super Software Sale order flyer, a Sprint "Free & Clear" promotional flyer, a blank 256 Color Exchange form, and an unused Sierra warranty registration card. (The order flyer lists King's Quest VI as a new release, which dates the flyer to around late 1992, so the promotional inserts in this box differ from those found in some other copies.)
All game components are included: both manuals, all six disks, and the registration card.
The side of the outer box sleeve lists the original system requirements. They are 640K, a hard disk, and a 286 or better processor, with a mouse recommended. Supported sound cards include the Thunderboard, Pro Audio Spectrum, AdLib, Roland MT-32/LAPC-1/CM-32L, and Sound Blaster.
Like all copies of this game, it installs from the floppy disks to a hard drive and is played from there.
Condition:
The outer sleeve is in good vintage condition with bright, unfaded color.
The white inner tray also looks good with minimal surface wear.
The Procedure and Operations Manual has some light tan staining on one page.
READ: The previous owner's handwriting is in two places in the operations manual. It is on the map (pages 14-15) and on the inside of the back cover.
-The Lytton street map has pen and pencil marks, including a scribbled-over street number, a circled X, and the word "MALL" written in.
-Case notes are written in black and blue ink on the inside back cover of the operations manual. These notes include case numbers, a character name, and notes that may reveal plot points. Only part of these handwritten notes on the cover are pictured (last picture). The rest is cropped out to help avoid any possible spoilers, but the writing does continue farther down the page.
The disks are clean, with intact labels. The registration card and 256-color exchange form are unused.
Only the items shown in the photos are included. Please see pictures for condition.
