About this Meteorite
At least 2 metric tons of material comprising thousands of individuals has been found related to NWA 869 meteorite! Individual masses are known to range from <1 g to >20 kg. When cut and polished, NWA 869 displays a beautiful matrix of colorful chondrules, carbonaceous inclusions and brecciation. Chondrules form as molten or partially molten droplets in space before being accreted to their parent asteroids. Stony meteorites are some of the oldest solid materials from the formation of our solar system. Scientists study these meteorites to understand how our solar system formed.
As an astronomer and meteorite hunter, I am fascinated by the journey meteorites have taken through space and the scientific insights they hold.
The Cosmos has an extraordinary story to tell—this meteorite preserves one small chapter of it.
