A striking large oval studio pottery platter by Portuguese ceramic artist Luís Soares, produced at Ceramicarte in Cascais, Portugal, and dated 2 May 1996.
The platter features a wonderfully expressive, stylised fish with an elongated pointed snout and dramatic flowing fins, surrounded by colourful botanical and abstract motifs.
Hand-painted in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald green, coral red and warm yellow, the decoration is beautifully complemented by a softly speckled pale glaze.
The design combines playful modernist illustration with traditional Portuguese ceramic craftsmanship, creating a highly decorative and distinctive piece.
The front bears the artist's signature and date, while the reverse retains the impressed Ceramicarte Cascais Portugal studio mark and a handwritten workshop number.
A wonderful example of late 20th-century Portuguese studio ceramics, ideal as a decorative centrepiece, displayed on a sideboard or mounted as wall art.
