Up for sale is an authentic, original loose book plate print titled "The Dancer's Reward" by the legendary Art Nouveau master Aubrey Beardsley. This specific print is sourced directly from the notable 1931 Three Sirens Press (New York) edition of Oscar Wilde's tragedy, Salomé.• Very Good vintage condition given its 95+ year age.
The paper shows gentle, natural age-toning along the borders, which enhances its antique aesthetic. Crisp imagery with strong, rich black inks. Featuring Beardsley’s iconic, macabre depiction of Salomé standing over the head of John the Baptist on a charger, this piece perfectly encapsulates the Decadent and Aesthetic movements of the late 19th century. In the lower-left corner inside the illustration border is Beardsley’s printed stylized initials (his personal "monograph" mark). This was etched directly onto the original 1893 printing plate and replicates across every book printed thereafter.
This 1931 edition is highly collected by bibliophiles due to the unique publishing history of the Three Sirens Press, which brought beautifully styled, illustrated literature into a striking Art Deco-era presentation.
