This vintage oval tray from Design Gifts International Inc. is a striking piece of 1970s decor, with large abalone shell pieces embedded in clear resin over a bed of tumbled shell chips and small stones. The abalone catches the light beautifully, showing shifting tones of pink, green, blue, and gold across each shell fragment, with one small orange shell accent near the center.

The oval measures approximately 11.75”long and rests on three small round feet on the underside. A manufacturer’s sticker on the base reads “Design Gifts Intern’l Inc., Original Design, ©MCMLXXIV, Made in USA,” dating the piece to 1974.

This style was produced as a decorative tray, catchall, or trivet, and works equally well for serving, holding jewelry or keys, or simply displayed as a mid-century collectible.

Condition:

The tray is in nice vintage condition. The top surface, where the abalone is set in resin, appears clean and glossy in the photos with no cracks or chips present.
