The Tango Banjo was a four-string member of the banjo family intended to provide mandolin-style tuning in a single-course four-string configuration.
This example is being offered as an incomplete restoration/project instrument. It retains its wooden neck and fingerboard, four friction tuning pegs, wooden rim, dowel stick and substantial original-style rim hardware. The head, bridge, tailpiece and strings are missing. Additional hardware may also be incomplete.
The instrument shows considerable age-related wear, oxidation/tarnish to metal components, finish wear, scratches, marks and other evidence of its long history. No attempt has been made to restore, refinish, restring or set up the instrument.
The clearly marked Lyon & Healy dowel stick remains an especially desirable feature for identification, showing both the Style C designation and No. 1474.
Please review all photographs carefully for construction, surviving hardware, markings, completeness and overall condition. Sold as shown for restoration, parts, collection or display.
