Original hand-colored etching by German-born artist Willy Seiler (1903–1997), depicting an elderly Korean man seated in a rustic interior, smoking a traditional long-stemmed pipe. Titled Relaxing, the composition captures the character and quiet dignity of everyday life, rendered with delicate etched lines and individually applied watercolor.
Seiler established his studio in Karuizawa, Japan, following World War II and became known for his detailed etchings of Japanese and Korean subjects. His work was particularly popular among American military personnel stationed in East Asia during the postwar period.
This example is signed in pencil by the artist beneath the image and is accompanied by its original Willy Seiler Studio presentation materials, identifying it as an original hand-colored etching, plate 65A.
